TitleCopy letter from Sir James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Sir Frank [Watson] Dyson, FRS
Date4 December 1919
DescriptionAdvises there is one paper before the Mathematics Committee, by FWJ Whipple, which was sent back to the author to be reduced by six pages of the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society.' Whipple has rewritten it and it would now be ten pages of the 'Proceedings.' Sir James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society says 'The suggestion that it should be reduced to six pages came originally from myself; and knowing the author I thought it probable that if we asked for six pages he would still leave it considerably longer.' Advises they can either send it back to the referee, [Sir John William] Nicholson, FRS, or pass it as it is under Standing Order 43. Asks what action should be taken.
