TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Sir Henry Enfield Roscoe, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date5 March 1892
DescriptionThe fund for which Rix asks, and for which Roscoe has sent five guineas, is the Stokes Portrait Fund. Roscoe seems to have forgotten that on 5 January 1891 he was appointed a member of the sub-committee to select the artist, and on 9 February Roscoe reported to the Committee the result of his negotiations with Mr Herkomer. It was a mistake of Captain Abney to draw his cheque in Roscoe's favour but if Roscoe is not officially the Secretary of the Fund, Roscoe and Sir Lyon Playfair have been the two principal movers. Rix thinks Roscoe will be satisfied with the portrait.
