Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to H De La Hooke, Clerk to the London County Council |
Date | 23 June 1892 |
Description | At the direction of the Water Research Committee, Foster is to inform Hooke that progress is being made with the investigation as to the vitality of pathogenic organisms. As far as can be forseen the experiments now being conducted will be completed towards the end of July and the investigators hope to be produce a report of the results in October next.
The expenses incurred so far amount to nearly £400. The Government Grant Committee have not only granted the £250 applied for to be used in conjunction with the £250 given by the London County Council, but have also, in order that the investigation may be continued, granted a further sum of £250, provided that that the London County Council see their way to providing a like sum.
The first report of the Committee, though only a historical survey of work already conducted in the matter, has been judged of such importance as to have been ordered to be printed in the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society'. All the expenses of printing are borne by the Society, so that the whole £500 may be available for the actual expenses of the inquiry.
Foster asks if the Council are willing to continue their financial assistance. |
