TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster
Date19 September 1892
DescriptionAs it will save a week Rix will try to put the state of the case concerning Professor [William Crawford] Williamson's paper into writing. Rix encloses various slips [not attached] which are suggestions that have been made on Professor Williamson's manuscript and all of which Williamson has emphatically declined to entertain. In addition Williamson has also been through Professor Bower's amendments to his manuscript which Rix could not prevent as Williamson called at the Society demanding to see his manuscript at once, and saw the red ink. Rix asks if they are to press the matter on Williamson or proceed with the printing without further protest.

On a more serious matter, Rix gave Stanford explicit instructions to send proofs of the plates for Mr Clarke's paper to the Society before commencing to print. Instead Stanford sent the final proofs to Clarke, who did not pass them through the Society but ordered Stanford's to proceed without even notifying the Society. In consequence the whole is spoiled and will involve a loss of £30. Rix hopes to see Stanford about the matter and afterward will write or await Foster's next London visit.
