TitleCopy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to the Director of the Meteorological Office; Air Ministry, London, W.C.2.
Date14 April 1921
DescriptionWrites to the Director on the subject of the 'National Physical Laboratory Pension Fund'. Notes that it was originally started by the Society to provide a retiring allowance for the Director of the National Physical Laboratory, Sir Richard [Tetley] Glazebrook, and the Director of Kew Observatory, Dr. [Charles] Chree. However, as Sir Glazebrook has no interest in the fund it will now go entirely to Dr. Chree. Explains that, as it stands, there is not enough in the Fund to provide Dr. Chree with a retiring allowance of £100 a year, and so it was recently resolved that the Executive Council should pay £125 into the Laboratory Pension Fund for the next ten years to cover the cost.
