TitleCopy letter from Francis Alexander Towle, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society; to S. B. Gaythorpe Esquire; 3 Prospect Road, Barrow-in-Furness
Date2 July 1921
DescriptionWrites on the subject of [Christian] Huygens and the Society. Quotes some passages from [John] Evelyn's Diary and comments that it does not seem to lead to anything definite. Notes that [Thomas?] Birch's account offers more of an accurate transcript of Society meetings, and the fact that nothing is mentioned in there is more telling. However, further notes that an unofficial, unrecorded election could have taken place, as 'There seems to have been but little formality at that period'.
