TitleCopy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Colonel [Henry George] Lyons, Chairman of the Gassiot Committee and FRS
Date30 November 1921
DescriptionAgrees with Colonol [Henry George] Lyons that any request to be transmitted to the Indian Government should come from the Council of the Society. Notes, however, that Council does not have the power to appoint delegates to attend the meetings of the Union [unspecified], only the National Committees can do this. In view of this, suggests that Colonel Lyons bring the letter from the Surveyor General of India before the National Committee for Geodesy and Physics and encourage them to appoint a British delegate from the Indian Government. In the meantime, notes that he will ask Council to ask the India Office to get such a person appointed.
