Title | Copy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Sir Ernest Rutherford, FRS |
Date | 28 February 1924 |
Description | Asks for opinion on the application of [Patrick Maynard Stuart] Blackett for the Moseley Studentship to spend a year in Gottingen [Germany], which James Hopwood Jeans has already replied that the decision should be put before the Council. States that the only expected opposition to this is that the Studentship is to secure research, not to learn new methods of it, and that the council will be swayed by Rutherford's opinion. Also asks if Rutherford will be present for the reading of the papers on 13 March and asks if he could say a few words about 'The large-angle scattering of a-particles by light nuclei' by [Étienne Samuel] Bieler. Requires a reply by Monday at the latest. [3 March 1924]. Other papers to be read on 13 March also listed and are [L. F.] Bates and [John S.] Rogers' paper ['Particles of Long Range Emitted by the Active Deposits of Radium, Thorium and Actinium'], [Alex] Müller's paper ['On the determination of the crystal-axes in "single-crystal" aluminium bars by means of X-rays'], and a paper ['The Crystalline Structure of Succinic Acid'] by Bragg and Miss [Kathleen] Yardley. |
