Title | Copy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to the Secretary, Cambridge Philosophical Society |
Date | 14 July 1926 |
Description | Explains the reasons for rejecting the application of a grant for scientific publications of the Cambridge Philosophical Society. That priority is given to scientific works which can be found in readily accessible and widely circulated publications, which university and local societies papers fail to do. States the general feeling of the Council was that the Memoirs, often by non-residents with little links to the work of Cambridge [University] would have a wider audience if published elsewhere and giving the grant would deny that. Mentions the Council voted overwhelmingly to reject the grant application. |
