TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to the Secretary [Reverend William Wilks], the Royal Horticultural Society
Date12 December 1892
DescriptionIn reply to the Secretary's letter of 30 November, Foster is directed by the President and Council to say that though they do not think it desirable to take part in the appeal which the Royal Horticultural Society proposes making to the London County Council, they are most anxious that their unwillingness should not be considered in any way as indicating that they do not appreciate the great importance of the action.

While feeling a great interest in, and attaching a high value to the investigations which the RHS Scientific Committee is conducting, the President and Council recognize that an inquiry concerning the nature of fogs and the means to avoid them is too large to be grappled with by a private Society. Should such a complete inquiry be instituted either on the initiative of the LCC or otherwise the President and Council will be prepared to render all the scientific aid in their power.
