TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Andrew Ainslie Common, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date11 April 1893
DescriptionA letter from the Foreign Office with inclosures has been received this morning, from which it appears that, by some misunderstanding upon the part of the Brazilian authorities the customs officers at Pernambuco did not receive instruction to afford facilities to the [solar eclipse] observers. In consequence the observers missed the mail and left Pernambuco by a coasting steamer on the 15th March. Rix is keeping the correspondence at the Society to lay before the Officers.
