TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to H De la Hooke, Clerk to the London County Council, Spring Gardens, S.W.
Date28 February 1894
DescriptionFoster writes with regard to the promised contribution of a second sum of 250 pounds from the London County Council to the inquiry on the 'Vitality of Microscopic Pathogenic Organisms in Water', subject to the contribution of a similiar sum by the Government Grant Committee, and providing that this would be the final contribution. The Treasurer of the Royal Society has applied and been granted the sum from the Government Grant Committee, and now that the whole 500 pounds from the Government Grant Committee and the first 250 pounds from the County Council has been expended, Foster is instructed by the Water Research Committee to apply for the London County Council's second contribution, to be paid to the Treasurer as soon as is convenient.

Foster also refers to the results already provided to the County Council, and a third report which is shortly to be published. He remarks that some of the results have been 'of so striking a character' as to prompt special accounts published in papers presented to the Society in advance of the full report, namely 'Experiments on the Action of Light on Bacillus anthracis', and 'Further Experiments' by Professor Marshall Ward.
