| Description | Rix has spoken to the Royal Society's Treasurer, John Evans, and Miss Chambers concerning Dora Earthy, and he notes that she is both younger and less experienced than previous incumbents of the post, so would not be initially of great use to them. As a consequence, Evans believes they should begin her on 50 pounds per annum; while Miss Chambers, although favourably disposed to try Arnold's protégé, wishes to make clear that she will only take responsibility for Earthy during office hours, with her arrangements for travel and accommodation to be her own.
Rix notes that if Miss Earthy is content with the conditions outlined, she may come for a month's trial from 1 September. He asks for a response within a week. |
