TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster, Secretary, Royal Society
Date24 July 1893
DescriptionRix states that the Treasurer, John Evans, wishes him to send the enclosed cheque to Professor Rudolf Virchow for the Croonian Lecture.

Dr Ruffler has stated that he undertook the translation work without a fee as "honorary work", and did not ask for a payment from Virchow. Rix does not know what Virchow meant in his letter, as he distinctly stated that he had not had the cost of translating refunded. Rix speculates that he was intending to give Dr Ruffer a fee; but Rix has drawn a cheque for 50 pounds only, and he should states that he should let them know if he has incurred any unusual expenses.
