| Description | James writes concerning a paper by Sir John Herschel on colour-blindness which appeared in 'Proceedings of the Royal Society' volume 10, which was in fact a report on a paper by Dr Pole. He explains that a copy was supplied to Pole, but that 20 lines at the end are omitted in the version published in 'Proceedings', and James has discovered that in the original manuscript they are replaced by a long addendum of Hesrchel's, though the word 'addendum' was not printed in spite of an instruction on the manuscript.
Due to the omission and addition, Dr Pole is unclear of how matters stand, and he states that the omitted matter is now important. James asks if he may show Pole the original as they can not find it among the reports and he only wishes to trace the additional matter to his copy of the report.
James encloses reports on Capstick, and states that Mr White waits for his instructions on whether to proceed or not. |
