TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Mr Earthy
Date22 September 1893
DescriptionRix understands that Earthy wished to hear before the end of the month regarding the probability of his daughter's appointment being confirmed, following the expiry of her probation period. He explains that her month's probabation will end tomorrow week, and he is able to inform Earthy that they are satisfied with all aspects of her work, except for her German, which is 'decidedly weak'.

Their satisfaction in all other respects means that they will allow her to remain on probation for another month, which will provide an opportunity to judge if her progress in German will warrant confirmation of her appointment. Rix has established that she is happy in her work, and willing to remain at the Royal Society on the terms outlined. Her pay will remain the same during her extended probation.
