Description | Foster is directed by the President and Council of the Royal Society to ask that the Secretary will express to the Lords of the Admiralty their thanks, and those of the Committee for the Eclipse Expedition, for their help in the service of the H.M.S. "Alecto" in the river Salum, and of H.M.S. "Blonde" in bringing observers from Bathurst to Grand Canary.
He further reports that the expedition was successful and, although the results will not be fully ascertained for some time, they are sure to be of great value. Foster asks that they also convey to the officers and crews of the two named vessels the thanks of the President and Council of the Society for the assistance they provided to members of the expedition. |
