DescriptionFoster explains that, in line with the directions of the President and Council of the Royal Society, formal letters of thanks have been sent to the Admiralty, including a request for recognition of the efforts of the officers and crews of the vessels; to the Foreign Office; and through the Foreign Office to the Governments of France and Brazil, the Governor of Senegal, and the administrator at Foundiougne.

He is also directed to ask that Common convey to the observers themselves the thanks of the President and Council for the 'zeal and ability' with which they carried out their task.
