TitleCopy letter from [Herbert Rix], to Professor Michael Foster, [Royal Society]
Date27 November 1893
DescriptionUpdates on matters of Royal Society business.

With regard to the Committee of Papers, Rix states that this was not an oversight, but was done by Lord Rayleigh's instruction, to allow a loop-hole in case of any important paper needing to be dealt with. In relation to the 'Toast List', Rix discovered that 'Belgrave Crescent' meant Edinburgh, and so he telegraphed the President on Saturday to inform him that the French Ambassador had accepted, and should propose the guests.

He also notes that Professor Marshall Ward wants to read paper "On the Action of Light on Bacteria' on 14 December, and asks if it should be added to the list for that date. Sir Henry Roscoe is stated as wanting to hold the Joule Committee on the morning of the 6th, and Rix asks what time he should summon it for, further noting that the Lawes Committee leaves at 3pm. Rix has written to the Treasurer to ask if he can attend in the morning.

Encloses a proof of committee slip, to be corrected and returned. Also, Rix states that the arrival of the French Ambassador is postponed, and so he has wired the President to write to the Danish Minister to respond for guests.
