TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Harry Marshall Ward, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date12 January 1894
DescriptionRix records that Ward sent in an abstract of his paper on 'Action of Light on Bacteria, Part III' the first week in December, but as it was uncertain that the full paper would be received by 14 December, Ward cut down the abstract into a short substantive paper which was read. He, however, does not have the date on which this shorter paper was received, and it appears that the manuscript on which it is marked, has not been returned by Ward, and so he asks that Ward send it back.

On 14 December, Ward also handed Rix the long paper, with its title having been altered from Part III, to Part IV. He asks if he is correct in assuming that the paper is intended for 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society', and if so, he asks that Ward submit an abstract and state which day it would be convenient to read the paper. Rix understands that this is distinct from the one for which he gave an oral exposition on the 14 December.
