Date15 January 1894
Description'Dear Sir,
The regulations with respect to admission to the Fellowship if the Royal Society are quite strictly kept. It is absolutely necessary to get the six signatures; they need not be all from personal knowledge. If you have done any considerable amount of original research, your name is sure to be known to many Fellows. It is understood that the candidate himself will not take any part in canvassing for signatures. The form of certificate will be supplied only to a Fellow.
I am, yours faithfully,
H Rix
Asst. Sec. R.S. [Assistant Secretary, Royal Society]'.
