TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to the Right Honorable Earl of Kimberley, Her Majesty's Chief Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs
Date23 July 1894
DescriptionFoster explains that Arthur Willey, Balfour student in the University of Cambridge and recently a Tutor in Biology at Columbia College, New York, has received a large assignment from the Parliamentary Grant in aid of Scientific Research, administered by the Royal Society, to assist him in an expedition to New Britain to study the natural history of the region and investigate the structure and life history of the Pearly Nautilus.

He is directed by the President and Council of the Royal Society to express the hope that the Earl of Kimberley will be inclined to give Willey such introductions and assistance as are within his power, and especially as the region is German territory, an introduction to the British Embassy or other authorities at Berlin as may be useful to him.

Willey's departure from Berlin for New Guinea near the beginning of August, means an early reply would be considered a favour.
