DescriptionHalf length, right profile. He was born in 1596 and died in 1650. He was not a Fellow. He conducted a scientific correspondence with Father Mersenne of Paris. His own writings were principally philosophical and, although many of his scientific ideas were abandoned, his Cartesian philosophy has influenced strongly the subsequent Western intellectual tradition
