NotesFaber was a leading exponent of the mezzotint engraving. He copied almost every painter including Lely, Kneller and the young Reynolds. Probably best known for the 47 plates copying portraits by Kneller of members of the Kit Cat Club. He produced his works in a splendid volume containing mezzotint engravings of all members and dedicated to the Duke of Somerset.

ProvenanceMezzotint engraving copied from a portrait of Charles II by Sir Peter Lely in the collection of the Duke of Grafton. The original painting was probably given to the Earl of Arlington by the King as an acknowledgement on the 1st Duke of Richmond being conceived at Euston Hall (the home of the Earl of Arlington). The daughter of the Earl of Arlington married the Duke of Graftonand the painting remains in that family.
