DescriptionThe introductory notes state that 'this set of papers was written at Mr Gaitskell's request, by a group of distinguished scientists, as a series of brief statements to hep Labour Ministers to points of decision' on scientific and technical manpower, fundamental science, civil research and development, science and industry, government machinery (see E.27 and E.24), and priorities.

Included here are the Minutes of a meeting of a full group to discuss the above document, held at Brown's Hotel, 27 August 1958.

Mr Gaitskell attended the meeting and 'said that the document is precisely what he asked for and that he is prepared to accept it as the basis for his policy on Science if returned to power'.
