DescriptionPress cuttings and other printed information concerning the Royal Society. Compiled by the organisation's staff. Cuttings include accounts of the Royal Society's conversaziones, anniversary meetings and other events. Several of the pieces collected in this period are illustrated. Other content includes reports on the African Eclipse Expedition (pp.1-2); controversy in the election of Sir Henry H Howorth, with a circular letter from Fellows objecting to his candidature (pp.8-13); further criticism of the Royal Society (pp.19-20); open meeting of the Royal Society to announce the discovery of argon (pp.55-67); on the metric system (pp.109-111). Other topics are highly varied. There are some court reports and letters to the editors of the various newspapers are also collected.

Generally, the cuttings are attributed to the source newspaper and dated in manuscript. The volume contains several blank pages, usually the verso pages of the book. A paper label on the cover is inscribed: 'April 7 1893 to June 26 1896. Royal Society Scrap-Book. General.'
