DescriptionThe first of two volumes containing the manuscript versions of papers I-XX published by the Royal Society in volume 136 of Philosophical Transactions in 1846.

The volume also includes some original illustrations and figures in various media (drawings, watercolours) in support of the papers.

Missing from this volume are manuscripts for the following papers:
'On spontaneous nitrification' by Christian Friedrich Schönbein;
'Contributions to terrestrial magnetism. — No. VII' by Edward Sabine;
'Contributions to terrestrial magnetism. — No. VIII' by Edward Sabine; and
'Meteorological observations made on board Her Majesty's (hired) Bark Pagoda, from January 10 to June 20, 1845, between —20° and —68°, and 0° and 120° east longitude' by Henry Clerk.
