DescriptionThe first of two volumes containing the manuscript versions of papers published by the Royal Society in volume 143 of Philosophical Transactions in 1853. A note at the beginning of the volume indicates that papers II, V, and VI are missing. This volume comprises papers I-X.

Also includes some original illustrations and figures in drawn in ink in support of the papers.

Missing from this volume are manuscripts for the following papers:
'On the morphology of the cephalous mollusca, as illustrated by the anatomy of certain heteropoda and pteropoda collected during the voyage of H. M. S. "Rattlesnake" in 1846-50' by Thomas Henry Huxley;
'On the periodic and non-periodic variations of the temperature at Toronto in Canada, from 1841 to 1852 inclusive' by Joseph Sabine; and
'On periodical laws in the larger magnetic disturbances' by Charles Wright Younghusband.
