Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, in part. A large amount of the tabular matter should be omitted. The diagrams should be reproduced. The paper would be entirely suitable as it stands in the reports of an Observatory but seems far too full for a paper in the 'Philosophical Transactions', especially when it is borne in mind that a paper of similar character dealing with the Kew Observations was lately published in Philosophical Transactions A, 202. The parts of the paper dealing with secular change and non-cyclic effect should be published, but tables III and IV may be confined to 'D' and 'H'. For the diurnal inequalities tables VII and VIII should be given but tables IX and X can be omitted. The diagrams should be given. Table XI of the ranges should be given only for 'D' and 'H' which compare with the Kew results. The close correspondence with Kew having been doubly established it is unnecessary to give the long tabular details of the Fourier analysis and all the tables from XII to XXIX inclusive, could be omitted. Explains why the tables of coefficients in two forms seem wholly unnecessary. A statement of the results of the Fourier analysis for the relation between the magnetic and sun-spot results would be adequate, the actual data being given in tables VII and VIII as regards the magnets.
