Title | Referee's report by Francis Henry Neville, on a paper 'Galvanic cells produced by the action of light' by Dr Meyer Wilderman |
Date | October 1905 |
Description | Sectional Committee: not stated.
Does not think the paper on the whole could be published in Philosophical Transactions. The paper is full of slight grammatical errors, badly arranged and repetitious. The curves in the diagrams are too crowded and he has difficulty in identifying the particular curves referred to in the paper. Summarises the main experiments and results. The experiments must have required a great amount of time and trouble and in many respects are carefully performed. The author discusses his results on the assumption that the illumination increases the solution pressure of silver ions and obtains equations of the usual type. This theoretical discussion has been published in the author's Proceedings paper, number 503. The memoir also contains a section devoted to a recapitulation of the author's views and contains a good deal of controversial matter. Whatever the value of this section, it is not the sort of thing the Society would usually publish. If the author could draw up a concise account of some of his typical experiments and their results, with actual curves, such an account might with advantage be published in the 'Proceedings'.
