Current knowledge is much in advance of that shown in the paper. Refers to work of Jakob Ernst Arthur Böttcher, Johann Nathanael Lieberkühn, Christian Andreas Victor Hensen, Heinrich Wilhelm Gottfried von Waldeyer-Hartz, Gottstein [?], Jean-Pierre Nuel, Lavdovsky [?] and Hasse [Karl Ewald Hasse?].
