TitleReferee's report by Walter Frank Raphael Weldon, on a paper 'Observations upon the normal and pathological histology and bacteriology of the oyster' by William Abbott Herdman and Rubert William Boyce
Date8 February 1899
DescriptionNot recommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. The chapters dealing with histology do not advance any new knowledge. The description of a new muscle is novel but 'can hardly be said to mark a distinct step in knowledge', and might be best suited to a technical journal. Some of the remaining paper 'consist very largely of literal copies of papers published by the authors in the last four volumes of the "Reports of the British Association for the Advancement of Science".' Gives detailed outline of these copied sections.
