TitleReferee's report by Edwin Ray Lankester, on a paper 'A study of the phyto-plankton of the Atlantic' by George Robert Milne Murray and Vernon Herbert Blackman
Date13 May 1898
DescriptionNot recommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. Finds the title of the paper to be misleading, as it is really four closely linked papers rather than one, that should really be treated separately. Suggests omitting the tables. Finds the observational data to be limited. Only parts of the paper are suitable for the Proceedings, with other parts more suitable for the Linnean Society. Refers to work of John Murray. Considers the authors' work to a be a poor result of a £200 Royal Society grant, for work which could have been done on preserved material.
