TitleReferee's report by William Dobinson Halliburton, on a paper 'The influence of lymph on blood coagulability' by Almroth Edward Wright
DateFebruary 1900
DescriptionSectional committee: [Physiology]

There is very little of importance in the paper. The need for taking care not to let the blood of a bleeding animal touch the muscle is known to every physiologist. The influence of pieces of muscle and 'muscle juice' on blood coagulation was worked out some years ago in both birds and mammals, see 'Muscle Plasma' in the 'Journal of Physiology', VIII, pages 173-183. His conclusion is different to that given by the author. That lymph is the real agent was abundantly shown by L E Shore, 'Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society', volume VII, part VI. The only new point that the author tries to make out is the substance in lymph to which the action is due, and he fails to see that the author proves his contention in the 'meagre evidence' offered in the last two pages of his manuscript.
