TitleReferee's report by Harold William Taylor Wager, on a paper 'The seed-fungus of lolium temulentum. L. the darnel, or poisonous rye-grass' by E M Freeman
Date29 December 1902
DescriptionSectional Committee: Botany

Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, in full. A number of interesting new facts have been brought forward which mark a distinct advance in their knowledge of this remarkable fungus, and a number of other observations have been made which, although they do not lead to very definite conclusions, are of considerable theoretical interest and afford a basis for future work. The paper appears reasonably well written and to contain little that is unnecessary.

The paper could be improved by reducing the number of the illustrations; figures six, nine, ten, 13, 20, 21, 24, 29 and either 30 or 31 might be dispensed with. There is constant reference in the text to figures which do not illustrate very important points or which are sufficiently illustrated by other figures. He would not insist on this however if the author has a serious objection to it and considers that the text would not be sufficiently illustrated by the remainder of the figures to give the reader an adequate idea of his work.
