TitleReferee's report by Thomas George Bonney, on a paper 'The geological structure of monzoni and the upper fassa' by Olgivie Gordon
Date8 August 1902
DescriptionSectional Committee: [Botany]

Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. The paper embodies a large amount of patient and minute field study and some of the observations seem very favourable to the author's hypothesis. However other observations appear quite compatible with the views generally accepted and many of the former depend on accuracy as an observer and interpreter of what she believes she has seen. Some statements about matters which have an important bearing on the author's conclusion seem very improbable and difficult to reconcile with what he has seen in adjacent districts. The paper could have convinced him more readily of its conclusions. Ventures to deny that the author may be right, but is very far from being convinced. Stronger and clearer reasoning is required before they can repudiate the conclusions which have been formed by previous observers.

The type written copy is full of misprints and proper references for the identification of the figures are not given in many cases. Had he been able to read the paper before it went to the other referees he should have refused to deal with it as it appears to him impertinent to submit an item in such a condition to the Royal Society.
