TitleReferee's report by Augustus Edward Hough Love, on a paper 'On the vibrations and stability of a gravitating planet' by James Hopwood Jeans
Date20 November 1902
DescriptionSectional Committee: Mathematics

Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, in full. Attention should be made to some difficulties in regard to points of detail and the attached notes should be sent to the author. The figures should be reproduced. It is of a very speculative character but the evidence in support of the hypothesis that gravitational instability has played a large part in the evolution of the system, is treated in an able manner. The author brings to light a cause of error in the classical solutions of problems of elasticity supposed to be related to the internal constitution of the earth; and it is important that this be recorded.
