TitleReferee's report by Edwin Ray Lankester, on a paper 'The heterogenetic origin of certain ciliated infusoria from the eggs of a rotifer' by Henry Charlton Bastian
Date27 February 1905
DescriptionSectional Committee: Zoology

Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. The author does not seem to be aware of the natures of the evidence which it is necessary to offer in order to prove, or even render possible, his hypothesis. The photographic figures are 'thoroughly bad & useless'. No proper micro-technical examination has been made of the 'eggs' or their contents. Infection by depression is the most likely explanation for what the author saw, but the question is not dealt with.

[Published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B, 1905].
