Title | Referee's report by Sydney John Hickson, on two papers 'A biometrical study of conjugation in paramecium' by Raymond Pearl and 'The growth of the oocyte in antedon: A morphological study in the cell-metabolism' by Gilbert C Chubb |
Date | 8 May 1906 |
Description | Sectional Committee: not stated.
Is sorry he cannot attend the meeting of the Zoology Sectional Committee the next day. If he had received more notice he could have made arrangements to attend and would like his correspondent to point out to the Committee that it is difficult for those living at distance to attend meetings in London on short notice.
Hickson has carefully considered two of the papers in the list and thinks Pearl's paper should not be published in Philosophical Transactions for the reasons stated in his report. Chubb's paper appears to be on a different footing and he thinks he might vote in favour of its publication in the 'Transactions' if the report of the other referee is in favour of that course and after consideration of the report of the referees and the consideration of the character of the paper, a majority of the Committee thinks it makes a distinct step in the advance of natural knowledge. Asks for his thoughts to be communicated to the Committee.
['A biometrical study of conjugation in paramecium' by Raymond Pearl not published].
['The growth of the oocyte in antedon: A morphological study in the cell-metabolism' by Gilbert C Chubb published in Philosophical Transactions B, 1906].
