TitleReferee's report by George Downing Liveing, on a paper 'The spectra of Neon Krypton and Xenon' by Edward Charles Cyril Baly
Date26 July 1903
DescriptionSectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry

Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. In general the paper is a record of careful work on a difficult subject, it consists of tables of wave-lengths and descriptions of lines. One point has struck him as noteworthy though it is probably a coincidence only. A strong line in the Xeon II spectrum, 'w.1. 3649 ^degrees^ 71' according to Baly, appears identical with one of the very strong lines of radium, which by careful measurement Crookes has found has an 'a.w.l. of 3649 ^degrees^ 71'. This coincidence is worth noting in view of the suggestion that one of these inert gases may be one of the products of the degradation of the Radium atom.
