TitleReferee's report by Charles Robert Darwin, on a paper 'On the arrangement of the foliation and cleavage of the rocks of the north of Scotland' by Daniel Sharpe
Date16 March 1852
DescriptionRecommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. Suggests that further evidence is needed before firm conclusions can be drawn. Refers to work by MacCallick [?] and Alexander von Humboldt. Suggests improvements to the author's map to clarify what is recorded observation and what is conjecture, to add scale and annotation. Considers the author's use of the term 'arches or lines of elevation' to be confusing, suggests 'axes of foliation' instead. Asks the author to state whether bearing have been corrected for variation.
