Title | Letter from Lionel Smith Beale, to William Sharpey, regarding printing costs of illustrations |
Date | 11 August 1863 |
Description | Engraving woodblocks will cost £35, with an additional £15 for printing and paper, for 8 plates. Is willing to cover some of the cost himself if this is too much of an expense. Woodblocks have the advantage over lithographic plates as they are less expensive to copy from. Is experimenting with having some of the woodblocks tinted, which if successful would add an additional £1 for printing. The engraver requires three clear months for the work. Asks if the Council would permit him to cover some of the expense and then own the blocks, from which he could make additional copies as required. |
