TitleReferee's report by Thomas Romney Robinson, on a paper 'Experiments, made at Watford, on the vibrations occasioned by railway trains passing through a tunnel' by James South
Date12 August 1863
DescriptionRecommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. Refers to a report by George Biddell Airy, and work by Henry Mangles Denham. 'But there are too many indications that no observatory is secure from Railway encroachment and Railway solicitors and Engineers are so little scrupulous as to the means by which their objects can be carried, that it is a matter of great consequence to place within ready reach of those who think Science more precious than even Railway Shares, decisive evidence of the evils which must arise from their vicinity'. Notes some errors in the calculations, and differences in the geology of Watford and Armagh.
