TitleReferee's report by William Ewart Gye, on a paper 'Evidence of resistance to tumour growth in the offspring of immunized rats' by Sidney Russ and G M Scott
DateMay 1939
DescriptionSectional committee: Physiology

The title of the paper should be changed from 'tumour growth' to 'tumour grafts'. The paper has been written from a biological interest point of view, not as a contribution to cancer knowledge. The authors haven't got a clear grasp of the difference between grafted and spontaneous cancer. One of it's conclusions is misleading and should be removed from the paper. The paper should be re-written as a study of the transmission of an acquired characteristic and not as a study in cancer.

If the authors choose to emphasis the cancer part of the paper, it should be published in the Journal of Pathology and Bacteriology or the American Journal of Cancer.

[Published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B, 1939, under the title 'Evidence of resistance to tumour grafts in the offspring of immunized rats'].
