TitleLetter from Philip Burton Moon, to David Christie Martin, regarding two papers 'On the theory of electrical fluctuations' by R Fürth and 'On the theory of electrical fluctuations' by David Keith Chalmers Macdonald
Date30 April 1948
DescriptionSectional Committee: Physics

Both papers 'are part of a continuing discussion of a notoriously difficult problem - how to formulate a quantitative theory of electrical fluctuations that shall be of general validity, not too artificial, and in agreement with experiment'. Thinks the discussion should be primarily verbal, with papers printed together. Suggests the paper by R Fürth be sent to the Physical Society, where much of the discussion has taken place and been printed in their Proceedings. Suggests the paper by David Keith Chalmers Macdonald be sent to some society, most appropriately the Physical Society, for reading and subsequent discussion. If the papers are to be published by the Royal Society, the defence of Harry Nyquist should be shortened.
