TitleLetter from William Thomson, Lord Kelvin to George Gabriel Stokes
Date9 November 1880
DescriptionDiscusses the use of gun metal in the tidal harmonic analyser. Is sorry to hear of the rigid rules of the Council regarding back copies of the Philosophical Transactions. Believes copies should be sent to the author's ordinary addresses, to avoid the situation he currently finds himself in. The books must surely still be there if unclaimed by the Fellow who owns them. Suggests a modest fine for storage would be fit for such a situation. Suggests it is time the 'old Law' was rescinded, and a new, fairer system put in place.
