Title | Royal Society Letters: letters received by the Royal Society, its President or Officers |
Date | 1737-1799 |
Description | Letters sent to the Royal Society, its President or Officers. Subject matter is both domestic/administrative and scientific. Domestic concerns include such matters as instructions from authors on the publication of papers. The letters on scientific topics appear to be those which were considered of small significance, e.g. giving notice of minor inventions, or appealing to the Society for recognition rather than presenting theories, ideas or observations. |
Extent | 3 volumes comprising a total of 149 items |
Arrangement | The letters and some printed material are arranged alphabetically by author within each volume. The series appears to be incomplete; volume 1 contains 49 items, only one of which dates from 1737 - the remainder date from 1768-1783. Volume 2 contains 47 letters dating between 1784-1787. Volume 3 contains 53 letters dated between 1787-1799 |
FindingAids | Each volume contains a list of contents in which letter number, author, date and recipient are set out. The same details have been added to the Archive Card Catalogue. |
