One of the first Research officers, Radio Research Board of Australia (1930); joined Council for Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR); sent to Britain to study development of radar; seconded to the Department of the Army, Australia as Director of Operational Research for the fighting services (for 2 years); Principal Research Officer, CSIR (1944); Chief Scientist, Radio Research Board (1949); Officer-in-Charge, CSIRO Upper Atmosphere Section (1958); President, Radio Astronomy Commission (1948-1954) and President, Ionosphere Commission (1954-1960), both with the International Scientific Radio Union; died of a gunshot wound
