| OtherInfo | Aside from his extensive art collection, Anderdon's library was also sold in 1847 and included manuscript letters by Anna Maria van Schurman and Contantijn Huygens. He was not particularly active in the Royal Society's work after his election.
The family mercantile company, Manning & Anderdon, owned sugar plantations in the Caribbean, which used enslaved people for labour. Following the Slavery Abolition Act 1833, Anderdon claimed compensation for enslaved people at his Seaforths estate in Antigua [Waladli or Wadadli]. In 1835, he was compensated for his claim for over £2,400 on 180 enslaved people. |
