OtherInfoKnown for his development of radiotherapy in the treatment of cancer and for developing methods of more accurately estimating the age of a geological period, based on the presence of radiocative elements in minerals, the uranium-thorium dating.
Has discovered (a) by direct measurement a variation of specific heat constant volume of various gases with density; (b) Iolite in the Granites of Leinster; (c) a heterogeneous Beryl Felspar mineral; (d) the reversal of 'Oldhamia antiqua' and 'radiata' impressions in the Slates of Bray Head.
